What is Context Windows, exactly?
Context Windows is a newsletter aimed at putting ideas from present-day AI in the context of the different strands of history that preceded them and the possible futures that might arise from them. Along the way, it tries to weave together concepts from cognitive science, economics, and other domains in the hopes of understanding how best to think about future minds and our relationship(s) to them.

Most of the author’s income comes from his salary at METR. (Up until March 2025 this read “Prometric, which itself is owned by EQT”).
Aside from that salary and in addition to investments in general index/retirement funds, he also holds small amounts of stock in three specific companies: ASML, NVDA, and MSFT. At the time of writing, these individual holdings constitute roughly 3% of his net worth.
Within the last 4 years, the only other disclosable payments he has received were small one-time reimbursements for work done in interviews with the Horizon Institute for Public Service, IAPS, and METR, and for work done reviewing applications for BERI.
